Building a Culture of Connection, Community, and Belonging

Kikori Core
Curriculum

At Kikori, we believe the process of cultivating connection, community, and belonging is a continuous journey. Each school year, students embark on this journey anew, and Kikori is here to guide them every step of the way. By providing educators with tools, knowledge, and an intentional mindset, we help create safe, inviting spaces where students can learn, grow, and thrive.

Philosophy Behind Kikori’s eSEL Approach

IMG_5422.heic

Kikori’s Experiential Social-Emotional Learning (eSEL) activities are designed to foster shared experiences that help students build connections, develop trust, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Grounded in Group Development Theory, our activities are sequenced to support students in their developmental journey from forming relationships to achieving authentic belonging.

Through real-world experiences, students:

  • Connect with themselves and others.

  • Build self-awareness and trust.

  • Develop a sense of community where their authentic selves can flourish.

Kikori’s Community Building Model

Our curriculum follows a research-based Community Building Model inspired by Group Development theory. By intentionally guiding classrooms through the stages of Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing, Kikori empowers educators to build classrooms where social-emotional well-being and life skills thrive.

Play-Reflect-Connect-Grow Process

This experiential learning process uses Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle to ensure students not only engage but also reflect, connect, and grow. Each activity ensures:

The Neuroscience Advantage

Research shows that experiential learning activates multiple areas of the brain, enhancing engagement and retention. According to neuroscience expert James Zull, learning physically changes the brain, creating new neural pathways. Kikori’s Play-Reflect-Connect-Grow model ensures that students are not just learning—they’re transforming.
