Each school year, students embark on this journey anew, and Kikori is here to guide them every step of the way. Philosophy Behind Kikori’s eSEL Approach

Kikori’s Experiential Social-Emotional Learning (eSEL) activities are designed to foster shared experiences that help students build connections, develop trust, and cultivate a sense of belonging. Grounded in Group Development Theory, our activities are sequenced to support students in their developmental journey from forming relationships to achieving authentic belonging.

Kikori’s Community Building Model
Our curriculum follows a research-based Community Building Model inspired by Group Development theory. By intentionally guiding classrooms through the stages of Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing, Kikori empowers educators to build classrooms where social-emotional well-being and life skills thrive.

Research shows that experiential learning activates multiple areas of the brain, enhancing engagement and retention. According to neuroscience expert James Zull, learning physically changes the brain, creating new neural pathways. Kikori’s Play-Reflect-Connect-Grow model ensures that students are not just learning—they’re transforming.

What is the Kikori Core Curriculum?
The Kikori Core Curriculum is a year-long social-emotional learning (SEL) program designed to help students build connections, develop self-awareness, and cultivate collaboration and leadership skills. The curriculum is split into three key units, each progressively guiding students to deeper levels of emotional and social competence.

UNIT 1: Connecting with Self & Others
Building Trust, Positive Relationships, and Self-Awareness
Stage 1:
Getting to Know Each Other

"We are learning how to develop positive relationships."
Key Concepts:
Students learn skills, attitudes, and actions for developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
Stage 2:
Learning to Trust and
Depend on One Another

"We are learning how to trust and depend on one another."
Key Concepts:
Students explore building trust, taking responsibility for mistakes, and showing graciousness in both winning and losing.

UNIT 2: Growing a Community
