The Harm Spreads in Every Direction

No parent hands their child a smartphone thinking about the day their child might be arrested.

But Margot Denommé spent 26 years as a Crown Attorney. She has sat across from those families too, not just the families of victims, but the families of children who sent death threats online, who participated in criminal harassment, who shared explicit content. Children who did not understand what they were doing, or what the consequences were, because no one had ever taught them.

Cyberbullying. Online death threats. Criminal harassment. Sharing explicit content. These are not just things that happen to children. They are things children do when handed a device with no preparation, no understanding of consequences, and no moral framework for the digital world.

That is what Margot means when she calls it insidious. The harm spreads in every direction.
