December Morning Meeting & Advisory Planner

Updated: Dec 2, 2022

Welcome to Kikori! We create Morning Meeting and Advisory Meeting planners that support the Responsive Classrooms framework! This month's theme is "Shake up the Magic", honoring this season of reflection and appreciation. Cultivate student's gratitude for self, each other, and the planet with this month's curated SEL activities!

How does reflection help our students grow?

Completing reflections has huge benefits for your students, including increasing self-awareness (critical for emotional intelligence!) and in developing a better understanding of others. Reflective practice helps students cultivate creative thinking skills and helps them connect more deeply to the activities they participated in. This is why reflection is a core part of EVERY Kikori activity - and why our December calendar is full of meaningful reflections and appreciations! By leading these activities, you will help your students end the year ready to rest and come back in the New Year even stronger.

Why are Morning Meetings and Advisory SO IMPORTANT for our students?

Just some of the benefits include the grounding routine provided to students when they enter your classroom, the opportunity for students to openly express themselves and share their feelings, and the teamwork and cooperation that occurs during the group activity.

Most importantly... when your students feel safe and connected, they're better able to LEARN! High School teacher, Summer Anguiano, stated that Morning Meetings promote a more “student-centered” approach to learning, which doesn’t mean throwing away your school curriculum altogether; she emphasizes that she “learned that shifting [her] focus from being content-driven to student-driven had more of an impact on the willingness of[ her] learners to engage with the classroom content.”

Both planners provide you with daily experiential, social emotional learning (eSEL) activities that you can do with your students! This includes the following:

  • Morning Message or Announcement to start the day off right!

  • Greeting Activity to practice those ever-important social skills!

  • Sharing or Acknowledging Activity to help students connect with one another!

  • Special Day Activity (i.e. Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day, National Ice Cream Day, and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day)!

  • Themed Daily Activity for Mindful Monday, Together Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Fun Friday!

Both planners are aligned to CASEL Social Emotional Learning Standards, 21st Century Skills and Sustainable Development Skills.
