How One Teacher Said Goodbye to the Sunday Scaries
Sunday nights don’t have to mean scrambling to plan the week. One teacher shared her secret for SEL that runs itself: Kikori, every morning, every day of the school year.
Every day is already done
There’s nothing to build from scratch. Each day’s SEL is ready to go, so all she has to do is hit play. The lessons are scoped and sequenced across the whole year and grounded in the CASEL competencies, so students build skills in the right order without any extra planning.
Students practice, not just listen
Kikori activities are experiential, which means students actually practice the skills they’re learning. Instead of hearing about self-regulation or teamwork, they get up, talk, move, and try it together.
Support for the whole day
The structure follows the natural rhythm of a school day:
A morning check in to see how everyone is arriving.Energizers and calmers to reset after lunch and recess.A closing circle to reflect and end the day connected.
More joy, more time
In her words, the joy this has brought and the time it has saved her can’t be overstated. That’s the goal: less time planning on Sunday night, and more time enjoying the moments that matter in the classroom.
